About Colorado Muslim Speakers Bureau

Colorado Muslim Speakers Bureau (CMSB) is a non-profit organization that works to expand the knowledge of Muslims and their faith in a purely educational way. CMSB’s mission is to counter prejudice and discrimination against American Muslims by teaching about their traditions and contributions in the context of America’s history and cultural diversity. As an affiliate of the Islamic Network Group (ING), we are pursuing peace and countering all forms of bigotry through education and interfaith engagement while working within the framework of the First Amendment.

Who We Are

Founded in 2011, as a project of Muslims Intent on Learning and Activism (MILA), CMSB achieves its mission through education and community engagement. We work through regional volunteers who provide presentations, training seminars, workshops and panel discussions annually in schools, colleges, universities and community organizations as part of their cultural diversity curricula and programs. CMSB is working to build bridges among people of all backgrounds.

What We Do

The speakers combine formal presentation with informal interaction and discussion to inform the audience. Our most popular presentation titled, “Getting to Know American Muslims & Their Faith” begins with an introduction to the Islamic greeting, “assalamu alaikum.” Then the presentation covers Islamic history, demographics, culture vs. Islam, Islamic beliefs and practices and how they relate to everyday life in America, and ends with Islamic holidays and celebrations. In addition, speakers may tailor their presentation to cover broader topics such as social issues for American teens, women and families, stereotypes and perceptions, and conflicts around the world involving Muslims.

If you are interested in inviting guest speakers to your classroom, church, organization, or event please schedule a speaker on our website by completing the a Presentation Request Form or email us at CMSB.
